TWO WEEKS TO DEADLINE…

Only two weeks left until the August 31st deadline for Summer At The POOL. We’ve already heard from a number of you who are busy working on pieces for the exhibition. If you haven’t yet been in touch but plan on submitting something then drop us a line on summer@thepool.ie.

On September 23rd we’ll be hosting our Summer at The POOL party / exhibition / auction in the Centre for Creative Practices on Lower Pembroke Street*. An evening of great art, food, music and drink is guaranteed with all money raised through the art auction being donated to Barnardos.

You’ll have the chance to bid for the piece of your choice by silent auction (see details below). The person who bids the most wins. There will be a wide range of work and prices so all budgets will be catered for.

Drop by the blog and let us know what you’re up to www.thepool.ie/blog Or email us at summer@thepool.ie

Please remember that all work must be exhibition ready.

Barbara’s ‘Summer at The Pool’ wip…

June 11th, 2010 — 1:31pm

I’m just back from a festival in Barcelona (Primavera, it’s awesome…go book your tickets for next year now!) While taking a look around Montjuic I saw these swimming pools perched on the edge of the hill. Unfortunately I could only take shots through a locked gate so could only get the boards in shot. Must try harder…

This is a collage of pics I took in Zadar a few years ago. The local lads don’t need a pool, they have the Adriatic at their doorstep. Not sure where this is going and unfortunately I’ve hit the limits of my photoshop skills on it. Must find collaborator!!!

Pool Protest

June 11th, 2010 — 1:12pm

An alternative take on the ‘summer at the pool’ theme….? Next Summer….no pool!

SAVE OUR SWIMMING POOL – PROTEST – JUNE 14th
In December 2009, Dublin City Council announced that due to cutbacks in the budget there was no more funding available for the swimming pools in Sean McDermott Street, Coolock and Crumlin.

Sean McDermott Street is the only pool in the entire North inner city, which has a population in excess of 60,000 residents. Its closure would impact on all age groups, from the very young to senior citizens.

On Mon 14 June at 18:00 a demonstration against the Sean MacDermott Street swimming pool closure will take place at City Hall while the Council Meeting will be taking place.

Ciaran Mc Carthy says…

June 4th, 2010 — 11:12am

“After much soul-searching and whiskey I decided to do something involving supersoakers. 2 hours of research later and I came across some rather obsessive supersoaker collectors and tones of great imagery. The drawing has begun in earnest and I’ll let the final execution develop over the process… how arty.”

Summer At The Pool

May 6th, 2010 — 2:56pm

Summer at The POOL…is your chance to be an artist, even if the last time you picked up a crayon was in Mrs. Fanning’s Art Room.

Using  Summer at The POOL as your theme we want you to create a piece of art on your own, or preferably in collaboration with someone else.  Whatever your discipline, from Photography to Painting, Video installations to Sculpture, Papeir Mâché to Macramé…we want to see what talent is out there.

Deadline is August 31st and in September submitted pieces will be exhibited and auctioned with all proceeds going to charity.

Why not do something creative with your summer.

Collaboration

For the Summer at The POOL project we’d really urge you to collaborate with someone from another discipline.  You may be a keen Photographer and you’ve heard that girl from your office banging on about her Print work, why not combine the two to create a unique piece of art.

We’d love to see..

Sculptors work with Sound Engineers

Painters work with Poets

Glass Blowers work with Jewellery Makers

Illustrators work with Macremé-ists!

Whatever it is you dabble in, find someone who dabbles in something else and dabble together! Of course you can create something on your own too…but where’s the fun in that?!

The Small Print

All submitted work must be exhibition ready. That means if it needs a frame, please stick it in a frame.

Tell us what you’re up to

Email summer@thepool.ie and let us know if you intend on submitting a piece or better still, send us your wip images and we’ll put them up on the blog.

Leave your comments under the ‘Summer At The Pool’ article on the blog homepage.
